Morton's neuroma

What is Morton's neuroma?

Morton's neuroma is a painful condition affecting the nerves in your foot, most commonly between the third and fourth toes. It occurs when the tissue surrounding one of the nerves leading to your toes becomes thickened, often due to irritation, compression, or injury. This can result in a feeling of burning pain, numbness, or even the sensation of having a pebble in your shoe.

Treatment & Managing strategies

There are several treatment options available to alleviate discomfort and improve mobility. For mild cases, conservative approaches such as wearing well-fitted shoes with ample toe space, using orthotic inserts for support, and avoiding high heels can help relieve pressure on the affected area. Ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers may also reduce inflammation and pain. In more persistent cases may recommend physical therapy, corticosteroid injections, or alcohol sclerosing injections to target the neuroma directly. If these measures do not provide sufficient relief, surgery to remove the affected nerve may be considered as a last resort. Consulting a medical professional is essential to determine the best treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
